The red breast of the robin, apart from being what makes this bird so cute, is a weapon in the territorial defence arsenal of the males. Often, simply puffing out the breast is enough to win the war. But if not, things can turn into a fight. Robins are not born with a red breast, they get it at the first moult. Funnily enough, the shape of each robin's red breast is unique, rather like a fingerprint. Catch a Metalbird robin, one of our favourite birds, forever in your garden.
